Last year Denny’s gave America the much-needed bacon sundae, which ensured that ice cream and pork didn’t have to be mutually exclusive ingredients. And now Jack in the Box has picked up the torch, debuting a meat-flavored dessert that can fit conveniently in your car’s cupholder.
The “bacon shake” isn’t officially listed on Jack in the Box’s menu. Despite containing 54 fat grams and 1,081 calories, the bacon shake isn’t just a hot item—according to the San Diego Union-Tribune, some restaurants are running out of the drink.
Jack in the Box spokeswoman Golda Akhgarnia said, “It’s more of a viral, word-of-mouth marketing promotion that’s been generating a lot of buzz on its own. Each restaurant received a limited quantity, so we don’t know how long the shakes will last. It’s not listed on our menus, but customers can ask for it in the restaurants.”
The success of the bacon shake could pave the way for a host of daring new desserts in Southern California. Perhaps a soft serve salami cone? Only time will tell if you’ll be offered a bologna Coke the next time you duck into In-N-Out Burger.
